Any Questions ??? Please call ... buying a first wing should be a decision made with your instructor. Many instructors will not train beginners on just any glider (including me), find an instructor first. Your life hangs off your glider be sure it’s a quality product, built for your skill level, and sized correctly to your body size and fitness level. Slugger's PPG only trains new pilots on new certified gliders that Slugger approves of, Please talk with me before any wing purchase.

Power Atlas

This is the wing that has it all: excellent safety, forgiving for the new pilot, and fly’s great. The Power Atlas has a good sink rate, is super easy to launch, and is responsive but not twitchy. It is not a DHV 1, it’s a ACPUL standard class but is very suitable for the beginner thru intermediate pilot. The Power Atlas is based off the landmark successful Atlas paraglider. The Power Atlas now incorporates advanced security technology in the form of modernized profiles and construction techniques. The suspension lines have been optimized for use under power to ensure a high factor of safety and wing profile stability while keeping parasitic drag to a minimum and maximizing performance. High-strength poly Aramid lines protected by polyester sheathing are used throughout the glider. The canopy material is rip-stop nylon which has been greatly reinforced at the leading edge and suspension points. With all internal stitching; quality is built into the Power Atlas.
The Power Atlas has a four riser system, through which the A, B, C and D lines are suspended separately right to the canopy. This means it is easy to access individual lines if necessary for maneuvers and emergencies. Motor trim risers come standard and are shortened versions for use with a power unit’s higher hook in points, allowing easier access to the A’s for launches and more comfortable brake/toggle position during flight. The one inch wide webbing risers are fitted with a trimmer system for extra speed, and torque compensation during powered flight operations. The Power Atlas has very good trim speed (37km/h max load,) excellent stability, and confidence inspiring handling. A very easy launching fast rising glider designed to inspire the training, beginning, or intermediate pilot.

Where do I want to to be at loading wise Slugger?

This is a very common question, The answer is right at the top of the loading if you are a normal beginner, looking to fly powered, in normal conditions, in-land, and with all other things being equal; you want to be right at the top. This will keep the wing nice and pressurized and very collapse resistant. It will also make the glider punch thru minor turbulence and helps a new pilot cope with the torque of his/her motor. As an added bonus when you take to power unit off you will be right in the middle of the weight range for free flight activities like towing and hill fights where you want a lighter loading on your wing to maximize lifting air and to feel the thermials.
(See the diagram below)

I sell many gliders but 90% of my new students get the Power Atlas manufactured by Edel. I still regularly fly this glider and it has always been my go to glider for pushing my flight envelope. Sometimes you don’t want a sports car; Sometimes you want a truck dependable, rugged, comfortable, and safe. The Power Atlas is that truck you can trust to take you home because, let’s face it sometimes the air is a rocky road. Slugger will always have one around. In fact I am on my 5th Edel now and I still love my Power Atlas.
